PROJECT STORY
A custom Fireplace Wall shaped around the room.
Doorways on both sides left very little uninterrupted wall for a permanent focal feature. Instead of forcing a full-height composition into the narrow span, the project uses a compact partial-height drywall volume sized around a long linear electric fireplace and a softly illuminated top ledge.
Project goal. Create a fireplace-focused feature in a very limited wall area between two circulation openings without adding a television or visually closing in the room.
The available wall is constrained by an exterior-door opening on the left and the hallway opening on the right. The solution was intentionally simple: a projecting drywall fireplace structure that stops well below the ceiling, preserving the open circulation around it while creating enough depth for the electric fireplace. The flat top becomes a display ledge, and concealed linear LED lighting washes the wall above it. The lighting is dimmable and tunable from warmer to cooler white, so the ledge can shift from soft ambient light to a cleaner neutral-white effect. The fireplace wall and surrounding finish were kept in a warm white direction, allowing the flame line and light wash to provide the visual contrast without adding another surface material.

DESIGN & LAYOUT
Decisions shaped around the room.
Minimal warm-white painted drywall with no added stone, wood, tile, or decorative panel cladding; the visual emphasis comes from the long fireplace opening, clean ledge geometry, and adjustable concealed light wash.
- Partial-height projecting drywall fireplace wall
- Long linear electric fireplace
- Top display ledge
- Concealed linear LED wall-wash lighting
- Dimmable tunable-white light control
- Warm white painted finish

MATERIALS & DETAILS
Materials chosen to support the composition.
- Painted drywall fireplace structure
- Long linear electric fireplace
- Concealed linear LED accent lighting
- Dimmable tunable-white lighting controls
- Warm white interior paint finish

LIGHTING & FIREPLACE DETAIL
The ledge carries the atmosphere instead of another finish material.
A concealed linear light source washes the wall above the warm-white drywall feature and can shift from warmer to cooler white.
The close view shows how the long electric fireplace and illuminated ledge work as the two visual lines in the composition. Dimming lets the upper light stay subtle at night, while tunable-white control changes the light character without altering the minimal painted surface.

BEFORE
Two openings left only a narrow strip of wall for a permanent feature.
The television sat on a freestanding console, with the exterior-side opening on the left and the hallway opening on the right defining the usable span.
Rather than filling the entire elevation, the new design uses only the depth and height needed for the fireplace. That constraint became the reason for the low drywall volume, open upper wall, and illuminated display ledge.
THE RESULT
A finished feature designed to belong to the room.
The tight wall span now has a functional focal point without crowding either opening: the long fireplace anchors the lower volume, while the illuminated ledge adds depth and evening atmosphere above it.
SCOPE OF WORK
What was included
- Built a projecting partial-height drywall fireplace structure within the narrow wall span between the two existing openings.
- Sized the structure to integrate a long linear electric fireplace while keeping the overall volume compact.
- Installed the long linear electric fireplace in the front face of the new drywall feature.
- Created a clean flat top ledge for decorative display.
- Installed concealed linear LED accent lighting along the top ledge to wash the wall above the fireplace feature.
- Integrated dimmable tunable-white lighting so the light can shift between warmer and cooler white settings.
- Finished the drywall structure in a warm white painted finish coordinated with the surrounding room.
- Completed the visible drywall and paint detailing around the new fireplace wall and adjacent openings.
